SWTOR Class Guide - Should I Pick Jedi Knight Or Sith Warrior?

With the release of SWTOR, you may be wondering whether to choose the Jedi Knights or go for the dark side and follow the path of the Sith Warrior. Each class has their benefits and disadvantages but which one of these is the better class to play as?

Jedi Knight

The Jedi knights are also known as the peacekeepers of the galaxy. They fight and protect the republic from threats that may arise to take them down.

Sith Warrior

The Sith warrior is similar to the Jedi knight but instead of fighting for the republic they fight for the Sith Empire whose sole purpose is to defeat the Republic and then start a galactic domination phase.

Sith Warrior vs. Jedi Knight

In the game the top two predicted classes that will be used are the Jedi and the Sith warriors. The main thing that attracts people to these classes are the lightsabers but apart from that there are plenty features of each class that makes them a good choice to pick from.

Jedi Speed

The Jedi use leather robes as their armour which makes them faster than the Sith are. This means that they are able to evade attacks faster than plenty of other classes and with the ability to use force speed they can bring in attacks to their opposition even faster.

Sith Defence

Unlike the Jedi the Sith will have heavy armour which does mean that they are slower but it does mean that their defence is increased. Benefits of this mean that you can be under attack from multiple enemies and sustain a lot of damage which gives you time to attack your assailants.

Force Powers

Both the Jedi and Sith have access to the force powers however the Jedi have more control of it than the Sith do. Even with this both side have the advantage over their enemies by being able to use these abilities to push, throw, choke, and shock their enemies which can be very effective in situations.

The Jedi force powers are stronger than the Sith and probably is their biggest attribute in the game.

Sith Warrior Melee

Like the Jedi attributes are the force powers the main attribute for the Sith warrior is their melee.

Equipped with two lightsabers instead of one the warriors can kill enemies twice as fast and can take on twice as many enemies when they are in close combat range. When attacking at close range the Sith warrior takes the trophy of being the most deadly.

Which Side Do You Choose?

With the help of this SWTOR class guide you should have an idea of which class you want to choose from. Whichever one you choose from if leveled up correctly you will be able to create a near impossible to defeat character.

Here's how you can level up SUPER fast in SWTOR

How Juggernauts Will Work as DPS In Star Wars the Old Republic MMORPG

So for example you are a DPS-based Jedi Guardian/Sith Juggernaut. You will be wearing heavier armor and you will do less damage than a Gunslinger who's not wearing armor of this type.

That might seem simple but it's a little more complex than that.

Basically in this game, there are many, many variables factoring into DPS specs. For each class you'll have varying amounts of CC and ultility that will alter your maximum DPS. There's some talk about DPS over time as well, burst, non-burst, crit damage, and snare damage. Basically all of this has a large play in your class ability and ultimately your DPS.

So let's say for example you have a utility ability as part of your DPS rotation which has a snare or debuff - or some other type of debilitating effect. It may not deal damage on the target however so that is not DPS. On a 1:1 encounter a marauder could potentially deal more damage than a Jedi Guardian BUT if the Guardian uses the right abilities, he or she could negate this DPS advantage.

Take the Gunslingers and Marauders. They LOOK like a more viable threat in a showdown because of the high burst single target DPS they do. Yes they can kill fast, much like rogues in WoW, and this is fast and effective.

Now alternatively, you may be ignoring the Madness Inqusitor/Balance Consular who's hiding nearby, dropping AoE attacks and snares. If you were to get them focused on your whole team, and at the end of the warzone, these are the ones who end up with the highest DPS.

But, say, a marauder goes up against one of these classes. Well it will take them a great deal of skill to not get killed because they can't outdamage a Marauder. What they'd do in an ideal scenario would be to put lots of DOTs and debuffs on him and also keep him at range so he can't melee. That's easier said than done. These duels come down to skill, plain and simple.

So basically, DPS is only one part of the equation. Ultimately how well you play and know a class is what will determine how well you end up in each fight, and each scenario (PVP, PVE). This is true of raids, of PVP Warzones, of everything in the game. If you learn a class well, you will do much better DPS and what class you play is less important than how well you play it.

Star Wars the Old Republic MMORPG

Coming up in late 2011 is the Star Wars the Old Republic MMORPG from Bioware. This highly-anticipated MMO is designed with story as a premium feature, making each player's experience completely unique.

This MMO is expected to rival World of Warcraft, the popular MMO from Blizzard, which has drawn over 8 million players. In addition to the features WoW had, SWTOR is expected to be much more story-driven and compelling, as each NPC has a unique voice and interactive questline, where WoW NPCs did not.

Here you'll find a list of classes, races, and some overview about the game.
SWTOR's Setting
SWTOR takes place more than 3000 years before Darth Vader and the characters of the Star Wars trilogy ever came to life.

Sith vs. Jedi

The Galactic Republic, kept safe by the Jedi order, is threatened once more by the presence of Sith. The Sith come from Korriban, the dark and destructive homeworld from which they spring. The Sith are tied to Korriban as much as anything; its very nature is in their blood, and it gives them their dark force power.

This age-old war between Sith and Jedi will form the backbone of conflict within SWTOR.

Choose your side

In SWTOR, your personal player story will impact the world around you massively. Each storyline will be completely unique and you will play a part in shaping this huge universe. Each character and player you come into contact with will also impact you - and you will impact them.

Features of character customization include:

1. Building your own lightsaber
2. Making moral choices that shape the galaxy
3. Befriending companions who will stay with you for your entire career
4. Romances with other characters
5. Teaming up with other players to fight monsters and complete important missions

SWTOR Empire Classes
The Empire

On the Imperial side, again, you'll have four classes to choose from.

1. Bounty Hunter

The bounty hunter is a warrior for hire - think your typical mercenary. The bounty hunter relentlessly pursues his or her quarries to the ends of the galaxy until the prize is won.

The first specialization here is the Powertech, a true defensive spec. If you want to tank as a bounty hunter, this class/spec will be ideal, as it uses a buildup of firepower and defensive mechanics to become an impenetrable fortress.

The second spec for the bounty hunter is the mercenary, which resembles the Galactic gunslinger in some ways. You'll dualwield blasters and become a strong DPSer as this class and spec.

2. Sith Warrior

Counterpoint to the Republic's Jedi Council, the Sith Warriors are fighting machines of the cruelest, darkest force magic. As a Sith, you'll conquer the galaxy and bring devastation wherever you go.

The first specialization for the Sith warrior is the Juggernaut, an effective tank who wields his or her lightsaber to destroy opponents while maintaining a strong defensive flank.

The second specialization is the Sith Marauder, a dual-wielding, lightsaber brandishing spec that will have you reigning massive terror and decimation on your enemies with your red flaming sabers.

3. Imperial Agent

The Imperial agents are the cunning intelligentsia of the Empire's diplomacy. They get behind the scenes to assassinate, form allegiances, and spy on critical areas that the Republic is building.

First specialization: the operative, an advanced DPS and healing class for the Imperial Agent roles. The operative also has high stealth capabilities.

Second specialization: The sniper, a long range crowd control/DPS class which shoots from afar, targeting enemies' vulnerabilities to bring down the Empire's opponents.

4. Sith Inquisitor

The Sith Inquisitor is an adept master of the force, using unique mind control and manipulation tactics to wield powerful dark energies against her opponents.

Sith Sorcerers are incredible powerhouses of dark force energy, using the force to destroy from afar. They have healing capabilities as well. .

The Sith Assassin uses a dual-bladed lightsaber to destroy his opponents, wielding the same dark energies that the sorcerer uses. In conjunction with his melee abilities, the assassin is a unique, powerful enemy of the Republic.
